Today, Shopping for a Change is featuring our new MEND Laptop Sleeve. MEND is a nonprofit organization established to help bring an end to LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) atrocities in Uganda. Skilled in the production of
fair trade accessories, MEND is also a social enterprise designed to better the lives of women affected by the LRA conflict. The majority of seamstresses supported by MEND were abducted and forced to become child soldiers or wives of the commanders. After being fortunate to escape alive, these women were given counseling and taught how to sew. Excluded because of their former affiliation with the LRA, the already inundated market left them unable to provide for their children through the seamstress profession.
